Kite Privacy Policy

The short version
There is no account to create and no server of ours for your information to be sent to. Your downloads, your browsing history and your settings stay on your device. The app is supported by advertising, and the advertising partners named below receive your device’s advertising ID and some technical details in order to show and measure those ads — they are not given the pages you visit, the links you paste or the files you save.
Who we are
Kite (“the app”) is developed and published by NexApp (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at nexapp7@proton.me.
What Kite does
Kite lets you save video and audio from web pages onto your device and play them back. It includes a built-in web browser for finding media, a library for managing what you have saved, and a media player.
Information we collect
We collect nothing ourselves. We do not operate a server that receives your data, and the app contains no analytics or crash-reporting software.
Specifically, we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, browsing history, search queries, or the files you download.
The app does contain advertising software, which collects data for its own purposes rather than ours. What it receives is set out under Advertising below.
Information stored on your device
Kite stores the following locally on your device. It is never transmitted to us and we have no way to access it.
- Download records — the title, source address, format, progress and status of each download, so the app can show your list and resume interrupted transfers.
- Downloaded files — saved to a Kite folder on your device, or to the app’s own storage if you have not granted access to shared storage.
- Browsing history — the addresses of pages you visit in the built-in browser, so the app can show your history. You can delete individual entries or clear it entirely from Browser settings.
- Cookies and site data — created by the websites you visit in the built-in browser, exactly as they would be in any browser. Where a site requires you to be signed in to view media, the app may send the cookies and browser identification already held for that site along with the download request for that same site, so the download succeeds. This information goes only to the site you are downloading from.
- Settings — your theme choice, preferred search engine, ad-blocking preference, download options such as quality, speed limit and file naming, and whether you have completed the introduction.
- Private vault — files you move into the vault are encrypted on the device with a key held in the phone’s secure hardware, and stored where other apps cannot read them. We have no copy of that key and no way to open a vault. Uninstalling the app, clearing its data or resetting the phone destroys it permanently; it is not part of any backup and cannot be transferred to another device.
You can erase all of this at any time by clearing the app’s storage in Android Settings, or by uninstalling the app.
Excluded from backup. Kite’s download records and browsing history are explicitly excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so they do not leave your device that way either.
Network connections the app makes
Kite connects to the internet only in these situations:
- Websites you choose. When you paste a link or browse to a page, the app contacts that website directly to read information about the media and to download it. These are your requests to those third parties; we are not involved and receive nothing.
- Your chosen search engine. Searching in the built-in browser sends your query to the search engine you have selected — Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Brave, or one you configure yourself. Their privacy policies apply to that query.
- Thumbnail images. The app loads preview images from the source website’s content network so it can show you what you are about to download.
- Extraction engine updates. About once a week, the app checks for and downloads an updated copy of the open-source extraction engine it uses. This sends no information about you.
- Advertising. The app requests ads from its advertising partners and reports whether they were shown. See Advertising below for what those requests carry.
Your use of third-party websites through the built-in browser is governed by those websites’ own privacy policies and terms, not by this one.
Permissions and why they are needed

Children
Kite is not directed at children and is intended for users aged 18 and over. It includes an unrestricted web browser and is not suitable for children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, and ad requests from the app are tagged as not directed to children.
Content and copyright
Kite is a tool for personal use. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to save any content you download, and for complying with the terms of the websites you visit. The app does not circumvent copy protection: content protected by digital rights management is declined rather than downloaded.
Advertising
Kite is supported by advertising. This is what keeps the app available with no subscription and no account.
Ads are supplied through AppLovin MAX and the advertising networks it mediates. To select, show, cap and measure an ad, those partners receive:
- your device’s advertising ID;
- your IP address, and the approximate location it implies (typically your city or region — not a precise position);
- device and app details: model, operating system version, app version and language;
- ad events: which ads were requested, shown, and tapped.
They use this to choose which ad to show, to avoid showing you the same one repeatedly, to measure and bill for it, and — unless you opt out — to personalise it.
What they are not given. We do not pass them the addresses you visit, your searches, the links you paste, your download history, your file names, or anything in your private vault. The app hands the advertising software only the name of the place in the app where the ad is being shown.
Ads are selected through a mediation waterfall, so more than one company may receive a request for the same ad slot. Each partner’s own privacy policy governs what it does with what it receives:

Your choices
- Reset or delete your advertising ID. Android Settings → Privacy → Ads. On Android 12 and later you can delete the identifier outright, which stops personalisation; on earlier versions, choose Opt out of Ads Personalisation. Either way ads keep appearing — they simply stop being tailored to you.
- There is no consent prompt in the app. Kite does not currently show a screen asking whether you accept personalised advertising, and there is no setting inside the app that turns advertising off. The advertising ID control in Android Settings, described above, is the control that works today. If we add a consent prompt, this policy will be updated before that version is released.
- Everything stored on your device can be erased at any time from Android Settings, or by uninstalling the app.
Sharing and selling data
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for our own purposes. Showing personalised advertising through the partners named above involves sharing the data listed under Advertising with them, and under some privacy laws — including those of several US states — that counts as a “sale” or “share”. You can stop it by turning off ad personalisation as described under Your choices.
Data retention and deletion
We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side. The advertising partners retain what they receive under their own policies, linked above. Data stored on your device remains until you delete it — through the app’s own controls (Clear cache, Clear history, deleting downloads), by clearing the app’s storage in Android Settings, or by uninstalling.
Security
What the app stores stays on your device, protected by your device’s own security — your screen lock and Android’s app sandboxing, which prevents other apps reading Kite’s stored data. Files you place in the private vault are additionally encrypted with a key that cannot be copied off the phone. Data sent to the advertising partners travels over an encrypted connection.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and post the revised version at this address. If a future version of Kite collects more than this one does, we will update this policy and the app’s Google Play Data Safety listing before that version is released — as we did when advertising was added.
